Kelly L. Baumbach, Bronfman E.L. Rothschild
IB’s Professional of the Week is the premier way to meet Dane County’s professionals. This week features Kelly L. Baumbach, principal and managing director, Bronfman E.L. Rothschild.
1. What are the most challenging and rewarding aspects of your job and why?
The most rewarding aspect of my career is developing the personal relationships I have with clients and members of our team; they are like extended family to me. The most challenging part is always working to be ahead of the curve with innovation in a competitive industry.
2. Who do you look up to or admire in business and why?
I look up to Steve Brown of Steve Brown Apartments. He created a company that filled a need in our community, while also investing in the people of his organization. He then gave back to the community through the Stephen and Laurel Brown Foundation.
3. What has been the high point of your career so far?
The highlight of my career so far was the purchase of Baker Tilly Investment Advisors by the Bronfman and E.L. Rothschild families. This allowed me to not only become an equity partner, but also allowed us to expand the scope of services and level of customer service we now provide to clients.
4. Thinking back on your career, what advice would you give your 21-year-old self?
I would tell my 21-year-old self that a career is a journey, not a destination. Things work their way out. Pay attention to the small steps of growth — those steps are actually moving you forward.
5. What would you say are the best things about living and working in Dane County?
The best part of living and working in Dane County is the overall quality of life it provides. I live in Waunakee with great friends and schools and have a short commute to work in Madison, which is a great city that is full of amazing restaurants, engaging community events, an exceptional university, and so much more.
6. Do you have any secret talents or abilities that people would be surprised to discover?
My team has told me that I have a secret ability to remain calm and even keel despite ever-changing levels of stress. It is important to me to provide a positive and focused environment, both for our clients and our team members, so I make a considerable effort to keep that balance every day.
7. What are your guilty pleasures?
I love silly pranks. There is an Energizer bunny that tends to find its way under desks and into bookshelves in our office. We’ve had quite a few laughs over it!
