Milwaukee developer could get Park Street project
City staff is recommending a Milwaukee developer’s $41.3 million mixed-use proposal for a project on South Park Street.
Phase I of a proposed Rule Enterprises’ project, on a city-owned lot that used to be the Truman Olson Army Reserve Center at 1402 S. Park St., calls for a six-story complex including a 30,000-square-foot grocery store, 150 mixed-income apartments, and a 345-space parking garage. Phase II would add 80 more housing units in a five-story building.
Four proposals were considered, and Rule Enterprises’ rose to the top over Baehr Inc., Valeao and McShane Construction, Gorman & Co., and Welton Enterprises, according to a Wisconsin State Journal story.
Welton had won an earlier bid on the project, but the deal fell through and the project was rebid with the grocery store being a top consideration for the neighborhood to avoid creating a food desert.
