Middleton business owner convicted of child sex assault
A Middleton businessman faces up to 100 years in prison after a Dane County jury found him guilty of sexually assaulting two girls in swimming pools at Harbor Athletic Club in Middleton, according to a report in the Wisconsin State Journal.
Kevin D. Welton, 59, the owner of Welton Investment Real Estate in Middleton, was convicted last week of two counts of first-degree sexual assault of a child and one count of attempted first-degree sexual assault of a child. After hearing of the incidents, which occurred more than seven years apart beginning in December 2010, the jury also found that Welton attempted a second time to improperly touch the girl in the more recent incident, which occurred in June 2018.
Welton remains free on a signature bond after Dane County Circuit Judge Susan Crawford declined to revoke or change his bail, but he is scheduled to be sentenced in January. Prosecutors have filed a follow-up motion asking that Welton be jailed until his sentencing hearing, or that his whereabouts be tracked with GPS.
