Council delays Judge Doyle Square decision till next year

The Madison City Council deferred a vote until its Jan. 8 meeting on whether or not to pay an additional $600,000 to settle a dispute with Beitler Real Estate Services over a private “podium” portion of the $186 million Judge Doyle Square project.

Chicago-based Beitler has told city officials that if the impasse is not resolved, it could sue the city for “in excess of $40 million,” according to a story in the Wisconsin State Journal.

The Council’s latest move buys the city some time to work on resolving the impasse, although it also voted to allow the city to re-bid the disputed portion of the project.
