What are the most challenging and rewarding aspects of your job and why?
People are both the most challenging and rewarding aspects of my job. Whether it be helping a valued client solve a complex HR issue, or an injured employee navigate the complex world of workers’ compensation, it’s the people that make it fun and interesting to come to work every day.
Who do you look up to or admire in business and why?
I really admire Barbara Corcoran, of Shark Tank notoriety. Barbara took a $1,000 loan and turned it in to a real estate empire. I appreciate her directness and candor, and love that she is using her knowledge and expertise to help others find their passion and dreams. I was super excited when she started her podcast, Business Unusual, a few months back and I tune in every week!
What has been the high point of your career so far?
When I left my serving career 11 years ago to join the business world, the VP of the restaurant I worked for told me I’d be back waiting tables within 90 days. The high point of my career has been proving her wrong! I was honored two years ago when my long-time manager retired and I was promoted to manager/director of the department I joined all those years ago in an administrative support role.
Thinking back on your career, what advice would you give your 21-year-old self?
Keep believing in yourself — you really CAN do anything you decide to do. And cut up your credit cards.
