JDS project to include affordable apartments

After reaching a $700,000 settlement with Beitler Real Estate Services of Chicago on the Judge Doyle Square project downtown, the contested “podium” portion of the development, which is now in the city’s hands, may include affordable housing units for renters with low- and medium incomes, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report.

The number of affordable units will be up to the developer, and the city estimates the project will cost $6.5 million. Tax-incremental financing will not be an option.

Meanwhile, Beitler will develop the block across the street that will replace the Government East parking ramp with a hotel and apartments.
