Dan is the Manager of Madison’s Office of Business Resources (OBR). This 6-person team is part of the city’s Economic Development Division. OBR fields inquiries from businesses interested in locating or expanding in Madison, helps small business owners navigated city procedures, conducts business outreach, manages long-range economic development projects, and coordinates the City’s Street Vending program. Dan led the creation of the City’s Economic Development Strategy and is now working with colleagues on implementation of its high priority projects. Dan is also the City’s project manager for key economic development initiatives like the Madison Public Market and the Capitol East District.
Prior to joining the City staff, Dan had consulting positions with Vandewalle & Associates in Madison and Economics Research Associates in Chicago (now Economics division of AECOM). In these roles, Dan assisted communities, businesses, and developers with planning, economic development, and real estate projects. Dan’s consulting work included downtown plans, economic development strategies, neighborhood revitalization plans, real estate feasibility studies, corporate site selection, and economic impact analyses.
Dan has a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master’s in urban planning from the University of Michigan. He grew up on Madison’s southwest side and now lives in near Monona Bay with his wife Sarah, son Logan, and daughter Ella.
