Whole Foods to anchor Madison Yards
Smith Gilbane (Gilbane Development Co. and Summit Smith Development), the developer of the recently completed 600,000-square-foot Wisconsin State Office Building and parking garage on Madison’s west side, is heading into the next phase of development with the announcement that a 50,000-square-foot Whole Foods Market will anchor the Madison Yards at Hill Farms development at the southwest corner of University Avenue and Segoe Road.
According to a release, Whole Foods is the first retail tenant secured for the $300 million-plus Madison Yards, a 21-acre live/work/play district to include Class-A office and medical spaces, a walkable central green plaza, an upscale hotel, and 110,000 square feet of retail, restaurants, and entertainment spaces.
The release did not mention the fate of the existing Whole Foods at 3313 University Ave., a short distance away.
Infrastructure and roadwork on Madison Yards is expected to begin this summer, pending approvals.
