Monona’s Pizza Oven and Sauce Bar closes
Another local restaurant has closed its doors. After 59 years in Monona, the Pizza Oven and Sauce Bar, 5511 Monona Drive, has ceased operations.
A note taped to the establishment’s door read: “Our family and employees have always come first. It was a tough decision but we have decided to close our doors. Thank you for your support.”
The Pizza Oven has been around since Dick Domenget opened it in 1961 as a take-out only restaurant at the corner of Monona and Femrite drives, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report.
The Domenget family ran it for 42 years before selling it to Greg Ewelt in 2003, who launched the sports bar and moved the restaurant to the former Village Pedaler space.
