Madison mulls four plans for Park Street

Four developers have submitted plans to develop the former Truman Olson United States Army Reserve Center at 1402 S. Park St., and all four proposals include what the neighborhood wants most — a grocery store, according to an article in The Capital Times.

After an unsuccessful attempt to work out a deal with Welton Enterprises, the city solicited more proposals for the vacant, city-owned site, and Welton was one of the developers that responded along with a joint proposal from Maurer’s Market, Mehmert Store Services, and Gorman & Co., another joint proposal from Valeo, Baehr Inc., Habitat for Humanity of Dane Co., and McShane Construction, and a fourth plan from Rule Enterprises of Milwaukee.

In addition to a grocery store, the development plans feature a mix of affordable, market-rate, workforce, and student multifamily housing. The city will review the proposals during a public meeting on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 6 p.m., at the Madison Labor Temple, 1602 S. Park St.
