Train of thought: Could Madison-to-Chicago service come quickly?

The proposed Madison-to-Chicago commuter train might not be an express train, but if one gentleman had his way, it would get here in express fashion. That gentleman is Gary Goyke, the former state lawmaker turned lobbyist, who could be the captain of the “all-lobby” team when it comes to the prospect of twice-daily commuter service between Madison and Chicago.

Same-sex marriage plea: Just drop it, J.B.

One hoot for Obamacare

I’m still annoyed at the way the Affordable Care Act was passed. Remember this quote: “You have to pass the bill to find out what’s in it.” That’s no way to run a railroad, let alone pass landmark legislation. Nor am I pleased that the case for it was made on a broken promise. “If you like your health plan, you can keep your health plan, period. If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor, period.” Those kinds of commitments must be kept.

Life goes on for Bobby Hinds, Lifeline founder

Eighty-three-year-old Bobby Hinds has sold his Lifeline, the company he built over the past 40 years, so now it’s time for the indefatigable fitness fanatic to retire, right? Wrong. Hinds has been the driving force behind Lifeline USA, acquired last month by Pivotal 5, not because he founded the business, but because he was in charge of product development. Develop he did, and develop he will do.
