Secrets to success

This week, IB checks in with Bob Nennig, an attorney at Nennig Law Offices, who is competing in the individual challenge.
Like most people, over the years I’ve tried many times to lose weight and get in better shape. I’ve joined a gym, tried dieting, and even tried quick weight-loss foods and other gimmicks. While I initially experienced some short-term success, none of these worked long-term. I ended up getting frustrated, stopped what I was doing, and lost any progress that I’d made.
This time, with the Get Fit Challenge, I’m finally making decisions that will help me be successful now and down the road. This time, instead of trying to get that “quick fix,” I’m determined to make life-long changes.
I’ve decided to seek help in a number of ways. First, I made a conscious decision to involve professionals. I’m letting them share their expertise to design a roadmap that will work for my lifestyle, and that I will be able to continue to follow. Second, I’ve also involved my family and friends. While this journey is one that I have to make for myself, having the support from the important people in my life makes it easier and helps to keep me more focused. Third, I purchased a FitBit to help me track what I eat and how much I exercise, and keep me more accountable to myself.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I have decided not to give up. Everyone has good days and bad days. Nobody is perfect. What’s important is how I react to the bad days. I am no longer going to give up and stop trying. So far, I’ve lost 15 pounds and I feel great. More importantly, based on the hard work I’ve done already, and the decisions I’ve made, I’m confident that I will remain motivated and not regain the weight.
