Blaska promises all-out hell if you don’t read his blog

If only I had known it was that simple! State Sen. Jon Erpenbach promised “all-out hell” if the Senate took up abortion legislation. Not just plain-old hell or pretty-bad hell or even a Paul Fanlund column. No, the Democrat went all fire and brimstone by promising All-Out H-E-Double Hockey Sticks hell! The Republican majority said, well, in that case, let’s break for the holidays.
Truman’s supporters cried, “Give ’em hell, Harry,” but even that sainted leader never promised all-out hell.
Imagine if the Tea Party had threatened “all-out hell.” The talking heads would cluck and tut about democracy usurped by the howling mob! But the good senator is a member of the party of demonstration and confrontation. Come to think of it, the Siege of the Capitol did remind us of one of Dante’s inner circles — or Rockford after dark.
Instead of promising that you could keep your health care policy if you like it, President Obama should have promised “all-out hell.” On that, he has been delivering!
Blogging can be hell
I have already written about Senate party leader Chris Larson’s purge of Democrat(ic) moderates in the 2012 election cycle. Result? Two moderate Democrats, Bob Jauch of rural Superior and Tim Cullen of Janesville, announced their retirements this year. Both made it clear that the partisan fever — if such it is — affects their side of the aisle as well.
It’s just another small canary in a coal mine, but liberal blogger Lisa Mux is quitting her Waukesha Wonk.
Life is too short to spend your free time doing things that don’t bring about some level of joy. Additionally, I find the tone of the political discourse of late to be disconcerting, and I’m not talking about the Republicans. Recent incidents and behavior by some on my own “side” have prompted me to question things.
I asked Lisa to elaborate; she declined. At Blogging Blue, Zach Wisniewski comments, “Lisa’s decision to shut down her blog is a loss for the lefties in the Cheddarsphere. She’s an excellent writer, and she worked hard to stay above the fray that so often includes personal attacks, bomb-throwing, and nastiness, and I hope she reconsiders her decision at some point in the near future.”
