I am so-o-o ready for Hillary!

The district attorney is announcing his decision in the Tony Robinson case on May 12. Will Menards and Home Depot have enough plywood?
I found myself debating a Hillary Clinton apologist one morning on Wisconsin Public Radio, hosted by the lovely Joy Cardin. Christine Bremer-Muggli of Wausau is a founder of the “Ready for Hillary Political Action Committee.”
Right off, she teed one up for me by saying, “As someone who believes we have to turn this country around, I believe Hillary Clinton’s presidency will be very important in getting us back on track.” (Podcast here.)
I agreed with my debate adversary. After almost seven years of Barack Obama, the U.S. really does need to get turned around and back on track. But whether Obama’s secretary of state and loyal Senate colleague is the one to do that is an open question — among Democrats.
Is anyone aside from Bremer-Muggli truly excited about a Hillary candidacy? (Well, Paul Fanlund. But Mary Burke gave him goose bumps.) Haven’t we seen Hillary: The Movie before? (In fact, McCain-Feingold would have banned that movie [source here] which is why Hillary wants to geld the First Amendment.)
I suggested that the Democrat(ic) Party was riven by a battle for its very soul, as exemplified by the challenge from Bernie Sanders. Scott Walker, I suggested, won’t be afraid to call the Vermont senator a socialist. With that, I hit a nice, fresh nerve.
“McCarthyism, here we come!” Ms. B-M shrieked.
An odd, if telling, reaction. Pavlovian, actually. Did your humble squire traduce the Vermonter’s good name? Not according to Bernie’s loyal advance man, Comrade John Nichols. “Sanders is, arguably, America’s best-known democratic socialist … in the tradition carried on by Eugene Debs, Mother Jones, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and thousands more,” Nichols boasts. (Read it and weep.)
Despite getting the hives over the S word, Ms. Ready for Hillary understands the need to placate the Left. From the audiotape: “I have friends very much in favor of Bernie Sanders … and Elizabeth Warren. I think when you look at Hillary’s positions, there is no room between her positions and Elizabeth Warren’s positions — they are the same. … Both are looking to crack down on Wall Street. … People do support Bernie Sanders and that’s great and people do support Elizabeth Warren and when they look at the policies of Hillary they’ll find a good place to support Hillary.”
