No end to homeless problem at City-County Building

Kudos to four members of the Liaison Committee who voted to restore order. They are county exec appointee Jeff Kostelic, mayoral appointee Enis Ragland, Supv. Mary Kolar and Ald. Sheri Carter. Because it was a 4-4 vote, the motion to clear the front entrance failed.

Come on Baldeh, Clear, Matano, and Nelson. Time to cure homelessness, end poverty, eliminate income disparity, calm the oceans, and restore the polar ice caps. Until you do, in the meantime, could we at least provide a safe and sanitary work environment for our municipal and county employees?

Who is featured at this September’s Fighting BobFest at Breese Stevens Field? Appearing with Sen. Tammy Baldwin and Bernie Sanders advance man John Nichols is the candidate for old times’ sake, Russ Feingold. But wait, as the TV hucksters say, there’s more. Young, Gifted and Black is also on the bill!

Folks, this is what is known as “raw material.” Great optics!

From the battle zone: “Police used to sit on every corner, on the top of the block. These days? They’re nowhere.” — Baltimore resident quoted in “Baltimore Gets Bloodier As Arrests Drop Post-Freddie Gray.”

Dave keep doing what your doing.

Your an inspiration and voice of reason in the wilderness.

The no discipline code at the Madison public schools is a perfect endorsement for private & parochial and possibly the surburban schools.

Baltimore cops used to sit on every block, better to access payment from drug dealers for letting them operate. Do some real reading about Baltimore's troubled history, not the quick hits from cable TV meant to inflame those who don't read very much at all.

I think the city hall is the ideal homeless shelter. Those "working" there have not been particularly motivated to do anything legitimate to solve the problem, so let them deal with it first hand.

Dear Madison,

Your public schools are teaching your children that if you are black, there are no consequences for bad behavior. This was once called "the soft bigotry of low expectations".
If the kids are not racist going in .... they will be coming out.

I think the Walker strategy of allowing anyone who wants to be a teacher to actually be one is great. That way, everyone who thinks teachers are overpaid/underworked idiots and believe they could get the kids' attention and crank out top-notch test takers can. And should. And now maybe will.

I would like to remind Madisonians troubled by the decline of public schools that there are still excellent Catholic schools in Madison, where standards are upheld.

One of them, Our Lady Queen of Peace School, is a veritable pipeline to the University of Notre Dame. (If you're OK with a middling football program, the academics are strong and the lifelong Notre Dame network is incomparable.

Predictably, the plague of bums at the CCB is spreading to more visible spots around the downtown area, including benches at busy intersections. I pass by the corner of E. Washington and Pinckney St. on the Square nearly every day, where a fine upstanding member of the homeless "community" has set up housekeeping. Seriously, this woman has laid claim to two of the benches, spreading out enough of her crap (including a makeshift tent)to fill a decent-sized room. Another bum has decided to store his goods and chattels on the bench at the corner of Wisconsin Ave. and Mifflin St. Meanwhile, our elected "leaders" dither and equivocate as the quality of life in our city deteriorates by the day.

MadisonExpat nails it. What's more is this "Madison problem" isn't really a Madison problem. St. Paul, MN is having the same issues for the same reasons. Seriously, change "St. Paul" to Madison, and this article could come From "your progressive voice."

Sound familiar?

Madison has the solution though. Just need more money to filter through some unions, etc.:

Chief Koval endorses the special race courts in his blog?

He's hit his 52-week high several months ago. I'd sell, if you haven't already.

That's a mighty Christian way to approach the problem, calling them bums. The woman on Pinckney is clearly mentally ill. What's your solution to her problem? Bus ticket?
