America’s liberal of the year is ...
First time this year I watched the Packers with the gang at Pedro’s on East Washington Avenue. By the end of the third quarter, with the Packers behind, my friends were demanding that I reverse the bad juju by taking to the basement, like in that beer commercial. Instead, I drove back to the Stately Manor, where the Packers converted three fourth downs on their final drive before Aaron Rodgers found Randall Cobb as open as the bar at a German/Bohemian wedding.
You’re welcome, Packer Nation. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.
Time magazine named Pope Frankie One as its Man of the Year. Good man, but too facile a choice. Putting a newly elected pope or president on your cover is punting on first down.
The challenge is finding someone who best represents the zeitgeist of the times. As you might expect, the Blaska Policy Research Werkes (and Tanning Salon) is up to the challenge. As Musorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain played in the background, Old Sparky, our Eisenhower-era mainframe, ground out this year’s American Liberal of the Year.
Who is the 2013 honoree? Blaska’s Bring It! names none other than Obamacare’s Pajama Boy. This de-sexed layabout gets the nod for being the last best hope for the greatest overreach of American progressivism. The program that is uninsuring the insured needs healthy, never-going-to-die 20-somethings like Miley Cyrus needs clucking tongues, lest the tottering wreck of socialized insurance run aground like that Italian cruise liner. Boy were they surprised! Surprised? Wait till the millennials get assessed their federal fines!
Support for the country’s new health care law has dropped to a record low, according to a CNN/ORC poll that shows only 35% support the health care law and 62% oppose. Nearly all of the newfound opposition is coming from women — from 54% in November to 60% in December. So much for the supposed “war on women” being promoted by the Democrats and their amen corner (we’re looking at you Capital Times, MSNBC, et al.) to distract attention from O-care.
The O-care boondoggle has three-fourths of Americans viewing “Big Government” as the most serious threat to the nation’s health, according to the Gallup poll. Eleven months is a political eternity but, as of now, Republicans are poised to take over the U.S. Senate in the 2014 elections. CNN’s latest generic congressional poll shows Republicans up 49%-44% over Democrats.
PJ Boy succeeds last year’s honoree, Sandra Fluke, the law school student who chose to attend pricey Georgetown, then demanded the private Catholic school pay for her birth control. For that bit of impertinence she won a prime speaking role at the Dems’ national convention. Imagine making a hero of a passive-aggressive dependency addict! But then, progressivism needs victims for its feedstock.
Runners up: Edward Snowden, for giving America’s secrets to its enemies; IRS functionaries Steven T. Miller, Joseph H. Grant, and Lois Lerner, for targeting Tea Party groups; coprophagous MSNBC host Martin Bashir; MSNBC management for trying to divert attention away from Obamacare by manufacturing Republicans’ supposed “war on women’ and, of course, the co-creators of Pajama Boy: HSS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and President Barack Obama, author of the Lie of the Year, according to PolitiFact.
“Americans are tired of his whining,” reports the Boston Herald. Yes, but what eloquent whining!
