This just in … from 1968
After more than 50 years of Great Society giveaway programs, set-asides, subsidies, and affirmative action, minority race neighborhoods in big cities across America are free-fire zones.
The cure for urban dysfunction is right here in The Voice of Progressivism!
So what is The Capital Times’ answer to the self-immolation of the black community last weekend in Milwaukee?
More of that old demon, Big Gummint! I josh you not. (“Milwaukee’s crisis can and must be addressed.”)
First, Your Progressive Voice lays down a substrata of high-falutin’ gibberish: “There are no quick fixes for Milwaukee and other cities where problems have gone neglected for decades. But there are answers. The challenges are systemic, and the responses must be systemic. That may sound complicated to some people.”
Not complicated sounding at all. No, more like a Miss America contestant in the essay portion of the competition, only more naive.
What “systemic change” does The Capital Times pull out of its tattered New Deal/Great Society bag of tricks? Answer: another make-work summer jobs program that was old when Hubert Humphrey was around.
Yes sir, the cure for what ails the shooters, looters, and arsonists in our major cities is a $5.5 billion (with a B) boondoggle called the “Employ Young Americans Now Act.” (Doesn’t even make a good acronym.) This sputtering dud was sponsored by two Old Deal warhorses, Rep. John Conyers, D-Michigan, and Sen. “Feel the Bernie” Sanders, socialist of Vermont.
This “new approach to urban policy,” as The Progressive Voice laughably calls it, somehow would persuade semi-literate gang bangers to put aside their stolen Glocks for paintbrushes and garden rakes.
Make-work summer jobs? That is “systemic change”?
No mention of improving the failed public schools, too long held hostage to teacher unions and their demands for free Viagra. (The Progressive Voice calls school choice “playing games with school funding.”) Not a word about a rebirth of self-respect, personal responsibility, and respect for the law. (Crime produces poverty, not the other way around.)
No demand for the restoration of two-parent families, despite the empirical evidence that the absence of fathers produce feral sons. No prescription for healthy habits, like:
- Don’t point your gun at a police officer.
- Don’t shoplift the convenience store and then complain about high prices.
- Don’t burn down the beauty shop and then wonder why employers aren’t moving in.
- Do get up in the morning ready to learn, work, save, and contribute to your community. (As they said on Romper Room: “I’m a Romper Room Do Bee, a Do Bee all day long!”)
No, instead, Your Progressive Voice doubles down on 50 years of failure with another injection of the same old, low-expectations Marxist dogma: black folks are just helpless hostages awaiting The Next Big Government Program.
Just keep them voting Democrat.
