Straight talking the GOP convention

Straight talking the GOP convention

Some gestalt from Tuesday’s opening session. I’m with Ann of Althouse. Not to worry, Meade. I mean, like her, I watched the Republican National Convention Tuesday night on C-Span rather than one of the filtered outlets. As Ann says, “I cannot tolerate the channels that have people who talk about what is going on while it's going on. They are obviously not listening, so what are they doing – other than getting in the way?”

Will the Left throw a tantrum in Tampa?

Will the Left throw a tantrum in Tampa?

Will there be beer at a Packer game? The Republican National Convention starts this week in Tampa, Fla., Hurricane Isaac permitting. As uncertain as the weather can be, there is one certainty: liberals will make fools of themselves and take pride in doing so. The marching, chanting, placard-waving gaggle of Lefties picketing a Republican event is as predictable as hornets at a late-summer cookout.

Progs handcuff, then scapegoat Madison Police Chief Wray

My friend Brian Schimming will tell you that our liberal acquaintances always get the crime issue wrong. It’s like asking a Lithuanian about the proper bunt strategy in a close baseball game. He might have an opinion, but it is uninformed.

Blaska names Wisconsin’s Top 10 conservative bloggers

After the Squire himself, of course. Here are Blaska’s top 10 Wisconsin-oriented conservative bloggers, his must-reads, his polo-playing, tax-dodging, Koch-owned fellow freedom fighters in the vast right-wing conspiracy, in no particular order. The envelope, please.

Can Paul Ryan be good at math AND a good Catholic?

Can Paul Ryan be good at math AND a good Catholic?

Does anyone think the nation would be talking about Tim Pawlenty or Rob Portman today? But the nation is still buzzing about vice presidential pick Paul Ryan. He is, clearly, the game changer that Mitt Romney needed – and this nation needs. He verifies a Wisconsin trait: principled courage beats cowardly vacuity just as Scott Walker beats Tom Barrett and rock beats scissors.

Tommy G. does 50 pushups to prove he is no pushover

Tommy G. does 50 pushups to prove he is no pushover

If it’s Tuesday it must be election day in Wisconsin.* I predicted Tuesday night on WMTV’s newscast before the results were all in that this morning’s headlines would read Tommy v. Tammy. (Tammy, tell me true …) And that, my friends, was all she wrote for the open U.S. Senate seat from Wisconsin.

Romney’s pick is no boring white guy

Romney’s pick is no boring white guy

I am jazzed, I really am, by Paul Ryan’s selection to be Mitt Romney’s running mate. Yes, it’s great to have someone from Wisconsin, finally, on a major party presidential ticket. Heck, Janesville is just down the road. Been there. So yeah, it puts Wisconsin in play, but Ryan’s selection is much bigger than our 10 electoral votes.

Demonizing Mitt

Demonizing Mitt

Never mind that Mitt Romney is a Mormon, a religion more mysterious than the Sith Order of the Force-sensitives. Forget that he may have thought better of a former position or two. That's what the restart button is for. What really puts a twist in liberal undies is that the man is very wealthy – "loaded," as we Midwesterners say. Wait, it gets worse. Thanks to Democrat(ic) National Committee attack ads, Americans are learning that the Republican candidate for president is a businessman – not a proper heiress, like Tammy Baldwin or John Kerry.
