After Hours

The yins and yangs of a happy life

There is a popular belief in the world (I’ve heard it is attributed to Chinese philosophy, but I won’t assert that as fact) that one-third of things that will happen to you in your life’s journey are sad and sorrowful and that two-thirds, by comparison, are happy and joyous. There is also a belief that with great sorrow there is great reward – the lower the valley, the higher the next peak. And that brings me to a short list of Thanksgiving musings.

Two extra-special blessings this holiday season

In December, we’re going to be featuring “Favorite Holiday Memories” collected from a wide variety of people. I have so enjoyed editing the submissions that I’ve decided to give you a sneak peek this week of stories provided by IB blogger (and president of Total Awards & Promotions) Donna Gray and Edgewood professor and corporate trainer Elaine Beaubien. But first, I’d like to share a very personal introduction of these two fascinating ladies.

We like parties, we like soup. We like masks with lots of goop.

I’m happy to report that IB’s first annual “What’s in your Cauldron?” office party got a two-thumbs-up rating from attendees. It really was a lot of fun, courtesy of our staff, who cooked up their favorite soups, baked desserts, put tattoos in odd places, and decorated masks for the occasion.

Paying it forward with an internship

We want dedicated teachers and we want graduates to be prepared with the skills they need to succeed in business. Here’s your opportunity, then, to help a dedicated teacher prepare those very students for your industry! At our recent business expo, I was pleased to meet two business students from La Follette High School whom IB had comped for all activities throughout the day. We enjoyed hosting delightful young people with an interest and enthusiasm for area business.

What’s in your caldron?

Looking for a spooktacular idea for an office party this year? Or a new twist for your holiday party in the coming months? Shirley and I put our heads together at IB, and here’s what we’re hosting on Halloween for staff – it’s quick, it’s inexpensive, and most important, we expect everyone will have fun.
