CFO Awards: Nominate your ‘Dan Bullock’!
Dan Bullock: He’s clear speaking, levelheaded, creative, compassionate, and reliable. He is also known for being an early adopter of a “paperless” workspace, preferring electronic records to file cabinets. But more than that, he’s a contributor to his company’s bottom line and growth potential.
Dan, the CFO at Cleary Building Corp., is a friend of mine, and I hope that he applies to be in the running for In Business magazine’s CFO Awards, because I believe he would be a strong contender. If he doesn’t win, he will have nonetheless set the bar high for other competitors.
I first met Dan when we both stepped forward to join the board of the then-fledgling Far Eastside Business Association. That was 16 years ago, so we do indeed have some history behind us. During those years, I’ve been impressed not only with his incredibly strong leadership skills but also the dedication he brought to the organization. He was the go-to guy to get things done. (I write “was” since the organization no longer exists after a 10-year run.)
Dan is a modest man, so he’ll be reticent to nominate himself, but I hope his boss, Sean Cleary, takes the hint to get the ball rolling. I recently attended the Wisconsin Family Business Awards, and I know the value of public recognition, not only for a company but also for owner morale and employee engagement throughout the organization. It’s why we at IB support that award and also sponsor the Dane County Small Business Awards, which will be given in June. It’s why we’re adding this award as well to our portfolio, to bring credit to the behind-the-scenes employees who contribute so much.
