$85 million airport expansion includes new gates, restaurant
The Dane County Regional Airport is planning a two-year, 90,000-square-foot expansion project to boost and expand service from Madison, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal. The new addition will include three gates, a new restaurant, and other spaces for travelers. The project will allow the small airport to serve more passengers with more flights in the hope of growing the airport back to pre-pandemic levels. Most importantly, the expansion will increase the airport’s capacity for larger planes, making it easier to convince airlines to add new destinations for Dane County travelers. In 2019, the airport had 24 nonstop destinations but that number has decreased to 11 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
