40 new reasons to think the future is bright

From the pages of In Business magazine.

Every year autumn hits me pretty sudden, and it dawns on me that the year that feels like it just began is now quickly coming to an end. The end of the year also means it’s time for us to start looking ahead and getting ready for 2019, and one date that is quickly approaching is the application deadline for next year’s 40 Under 40 program.

We are entering the 19th year of our 40 Under 40 program, and it continues to grow in popularity. One thing that remains constant is that we still need to hear from you if you want to be considered for this honor (we announce the new class next March). Many of you are humble and probably feel uncomfortable talking about your accomplishments, but we encourage you to put your humility aside for 30 minutes as you fill out the application form. If you are fortunate enough to make the final cut, we can promise that it will be well worth the time and mild boastfulness.

The 40 Under 40 application can be filled out online at www.ibmadison.com/40under40survey. Get it to us by Friday, Nov. 16  to be considered. You do need to be under the age of 40 on March 1, 2019 to qualify, and you must work in or around the Greater Madison area. We do ask that applications be filled out by the candidate applying for 40 Under 40, so if you know someone who might make a great candidate, please encourage him/her to apply on our website, or email me at jon@ibmadison.com with their contact information. I’d be happy to reach out on your behalf.

Let me wrap this up with a couple of helpful suggestions: First, we encourage you to be as detailed and thorough as possible when submitting your application. Second, there is an option at the end to attach up to three reference letters from others explaining why the IB editorial team should consider you for this recognition. Each year, IB receives 150 or more applications, so be sure to put your best foot forward and provide as much information as possible about why we should consider you for this honor in 2019.
