New transportation for seniors to debut in Madison

Coinciding with National Senior Center Month, the Madison Senior Center, 330 W. Mifflin St., is hosting Madison’s first public demonstration of Cycling Without Age on Monday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m – 2 p.m. Cycling Without Age is a 501(c)3 organization gaining momentum with its first joint purchase of a trishaw with Oak Park Place of Madison.

According to a release, a trishaw is similar to a rickshaw, but two passengers sit in a front open-air compartment while being powered from behind by a volunteer riding an e-bike. The vehicle enables passengers with limited mobility opportunities to get outside, socialize, or get to appointments. It is already being implemented at private senior facilities, but this is the first time it’s been offered to the public.

Following the presentation, volunteers will give rides and answer questions until 2 p.m. Potential volunteers, local officials, and anyone curious or wanting a ride are invited.
