Three longtime State Street restaurants to be displaced by development

Husnu’s, Kabul, and Buraka, three long-time State Street restaurants, will lose their businesses when the area is demolished as part of the transformation of the street’s 500 block. Chicago-based developer Core Campus will be replacing much of the block with a high-rise apartment complex named The Hub. There’s a chance the restaurants will be offered space on the first floor of the new building, but whether they will be able to afford the rent is another issue, according to a Daily Cardinal report. In its initial proposal, Core Campus promised to continue to try to help the businesses. Construction on The Hub is expected to begin in January and be completed by fall 2015.
