Soglin proposes $313.9M budget

Mayor Paul Soglin released his proposed 2018 city budget totaling $313.9 million. If approved, the average taxpayer will pay $64.50 more.

The tradeoff will be a budget that the mayor says will promote upward mobility and address violence, including a $250,000 initiative that would take a public health and data-based approach to curb violent activity.

Among other included items: Staffing a new Midtown police station and adding 15 police officers over the next couple of years.

The city would also continue its five-year phase-in to a $15 minimum wage, and would provide health insurance for domestic partners of city employees.

Taxes on the average home would rise 2.7% to $2,482.
