Huge sports complex being discussed
The city of Madison is studying the idea of building a $38.3 million sports complex on 74 acres near Ho-Chunk Gaming Madison.
According to a story in the Wisconsin State Journal, the city and Ho-Chunk have been discussing ideas for the best utilization of both tribal and city-owned land in that southeast quadrant of the city for years.
The sports complex idea is still preliminary, however the Madison Area Sports Commission has studied the feasibility of a complex with both indoor and outdoor fields and parking for 1,428 vehicles. Its report claims the complex could generate $2.1 million in revenue and operate at a $227,000 deficit the first year, but that revenue could jump to $3.8 million with profits of $490,000 by year five.
It would also generate $10.6 million in direct spending the first year and $15.8 million by its fifth year, according to reports.
Reportedly, the Ho-Chunk Nation is also exploring an expansion of both its hotel and casino at the location. More to come!
