City billboard rule challenged again
Adams Outdoor Advertising, no stranger to legal battles over billboard placement and alteration, is appealing to the Urban Design Commission the city’s earlier denial regarding 22 of its elevated signs.
According to the Wisconsin State Journal, Matt Tucker, city zoning administrator, denied Adams’ request in June to modify 22 of its billboards, including increasing their height, installing digital displays, or both. Tucker says the city’s code relating to such changes is clear.
Adams is already suing the city, claiming it refuses to allow billboard modifications, so the appeal to the commission is seen as unusual.
Adams has sued and lost in other cases against Madison and the city of Fitchburg, but has appealed.
The Urban Design Commission will review the latest appeals on Oct. 11.
