University of Maryland to join Big Ten

The University of Maryland agreed to leave the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) to become a part of the Big Ten Conference, beginning in 2014, and Rutgers University (N.J.) is expected to follow. The decision will bring Big Ten teams exposure to the Washington, D.C. television market, one of the country’s largest.
