Big Top/Breese Stevens get finance nod
The Madison Finance Committee approved a new 10-year use contract with Big Top Events for Breese Stevens Field, according to an article in The Capital Times, that would replace the current contract with one that would run from January 2019 through 2028 with an option to extend it by five years if all parties agree.
The proposed contract allows for seven concerts a year with an option for an eighth and a curfew of 10 p.m., and also allows the historic venue to host a professional minor league soccer team.
In 2017, Breese Stevens hosted 170 events and the proposed contract increases that to 200 a year. It also increases the amount Big Top will pay the city each year, from $68,000 in 2019 to $91,000 in 2028.
The finance committee also adopted a second resolution funneling $1.3 million to upgrade Breese Stevens Field, including increasing the number of seats from 3,700 to 5,000, among other improvements.
