Ironman extends contract in Madison

The Greater Madison Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Madison Area Sports Commission announced that the contract for the Ironman triathlon competition has been extended through 2021.

Last year, a survey of Ironman athletes rated Madison as offering the Best Ironman Host City Experience, according to a release.

The 2017 competition attracted 2,700 athletes and approximately 25,000 spectators, and pumped over $4 million into the local economy. This year’s event is scheduled for Sept. 9.

Ironman should be cautious, the liberal politicians in Madison hate revenue being pumped into the local economy... instead of letting late night bar goers get their eats at local food carts, now they let them hop in their car and go to the nearest 24x7 fast food chain.

I would love to see the math and documentation that gets them to the more than $4MM figure... Hey someone has to keep their job so some value and metric had to be assigned to this that gets them to this number. This is the problem when government and local dollars go into the equation it has to be justified somehow...
