Madison unemployment falls to 3.0%

The unemployment rate in Madison has fallen to 3.0% according to preliminary estimates from the U.S. Department of Workforce Development and released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. These figures were not seasonally adjusted.

Preliminary unemployment rates for January 2017 decreased in all areas of the state over the year when compared with January 2016. Racine recorded the highest unemployment, at 5.0%.

Statewide, the BLS released seasonally adjusted statewide figures showing the state’s unemployment rate at 3.9%, down from 4.3% in January 2016 and well below the national rate of 4.8%. The 3.9% rate is the lowest since January 2001.
