Wind farms targeting Hawaiian surf?

The state of Hawaii has reportedly been in discussions with two wind-farm companies to construct wind turbines in federal waters far off the south shore of Oahu in waters a half-mile deep. The wind farms would likely include between 40 and 50 turbines connected to floating platforms just under the water’s surface and anchored to the ocean floor with undersea cables. Reportedly, the turbines would be located too far away to spoil the view from Oahu’s beaches.
