Art Fair on the Square

The artwork seen at VSA Wisconsin’s “Art Doesn’t See Disability” booth during the 59th annual Madison Art Fair on the Square July 8-9 is often termed “outsider art.” However, it brought a fresh, vibrant, compelling presence to this year's event. For the past 27 years VSA Wisconsin’s booth at the corner of N. Hamilton, Mifflin, and Pinckney streets has been a must-see for many fairgoers. This year’s booth showcased the artwork of 33 established and emerging artists with disabilities. All of the artwork was original and distinct, and ranged from paintings, photographs, drawings, ceramics, glass art, and much more. Some of this year’s featured artists, including Phil Porter, Scott Hansen, Faye Willems, Ben Fleishman, Dan Sullivan, and Pita Daniels were at the booth to greet visitors throughout the weekend. VSA Wisconsin artists sold 65 pieces of art during the event to raise a total of $5,838 for the nonprofit, $4,000 of which goes back to the disabled artists.
