Former horse fair director suspected in theft

Rhonda Reese, the Midwest Horse Fair’s executive director from 2007 until she was fired in July 2017, will likely be charged with multiple counts of theft from Horse Fair accounts, according to a story in the Wisconsin State Journal.

Between 2011 and 2017, the Columbus, Wis. woman allegedly wrote 45 checks from the fair’s account totaling $167,062. Reese was also using Horse Fair money to pay for tuition at Edgewood College, to purchase jewelry, pay for travel, and for merchandise from Amazon. In total, she allegedly stole $238,823 from Horse Fair accounts, according to Columbus police.

Reese was fired on July 5. She has also been an independent contractor with the State Journal’s Empty Stocking Club, and city and state spelling bees. Those contracts are now under review.
