Former Madison broker sentenced

James Kolf, a former Sauk City investment broker, was sentenced to 3 ½ years in federal prison for taking nearly $1 million from 14 clients who believed he was investing in energy companies.

Instead, Kolf was paying for a home, cars, credit card bills, and other personal expenses.

Kolf, 64, was a registered agent for MetLife between 2015 and 2016 and had worked as a dealer-broker in the Madison area since 1981, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
