Walker extends sales tax holiday

Parents of school-age children will get three extra days to take advantage of a sales tax holiday for school supplies, but the extension will cost the state an extra $3 million, according to a Wisconsin State Journal story.

The tax holiday will now run from Aug. 1 to Aug. 5 and will be limited to school supplies, back-to-school clothing, and computers. The program costs the state an estimated $14.8 million.

Think it's a great idea to help parents. Too bad it didn't happen before he's seeking re-election this Fall. Quite a coincidence...

So for every $100 you spend on clothing and supplies you save ... $5.50. Uhm, not sure how this is a great idea - sounds like fluff to me. I raised two kids and back to school sales had such inexpensive items that a smart shopper saves far more than that ... also, it only applies to low-end computers, not the more current models that have the power and programs a high school or college student needs. Sounds like great re-election ad copy to me ...
