My husband, Dave, and I recently took a road trip to enjoy the fall colors. We began by hurrying down interstate roads to St. Louis, where we had some business, and then wound our way home through parts of Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, and then back to Wonderful Wisconsin, following the Great River Road.

Power networking a key part of business prospecting

This coming Thursday at 8 a.m., I will have the pleasure of presenting a mini-seminar on power networking at Madison Nonprofit Day at Monona Terrace. Many of you already know how much I enjoy meeting and connecting people. I think it’s part of my life’s mission because connecting people is so second nature to me.

How to make the most of your networking opportunities

As the old saying goes, “It’s not what you know but who you know that counts.” Networking is about building the “who you know.” It’s about creating links between people we know and people they want to know, and at the same time, it helps us find ways to help those who help us create these link-ups.

This past week I was in networking mode, with something on the calendar almost every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Even with today’s emphasis on social media marketing, many of my business friends feel that in-person networking events still help pave the way to business deals.

How to get out of overload mode

A business friend of mine recently returned from a “mini retreat” where all electronic devices were completely turned off or put away. The goal was to have three days away from the “overload” that seems to follow this person all day long, both at work and at home.
