Individual work pays off for team
Ten professionals and 10 teams are competing in the 2015 Get Fit Challenge. Who will earn the healthiest marks? Follow along on Facebook and then find out at the In Business Expo & Conference on Oct. 21. This week, IB checks in with Dan Koss of Koss Insurance and Financial Services, which is competing in the team challenge, and includes team members Bob, Michael, and Jessica Koss. Stay tuned for future blogs from the team.
Here at the Koss Agency we started off with a team approach to losing weight and being healthier. It worked right out of the gate but has transformed over the last few weeks into a more individualized effort.
I feel like we fed off of one another for the first month, leaning on each other for tips and things that were working well. Once we got into it, everyone kind of branched off and did whatever worked best for themselves, during which time we’ve seen good results.
Bob has figured out that his diet is the biggest factor in his weight loss. He has eliminated his sweet intake and now probably has 1/5 of what he used to in a regular week. He’s always been an active guy so his exercise level has not changed and he continues to hit the gym three to five times a week.
Mike has started lifting weights for the first time in a few years and recently purchased his first gym membership. He has been lifting and cycling for his main source of exercise. He has also made a commitment to bring his own lunch in every day to limit his fast food intake, which has paid dividends in his weight loss.
I recently completed a 24-day eating challenge and lost almost 20 pounds in that time. I’ve been playing basketball three days a week, as well as running at least six miles every week to keep active.
Unfortunately, Jessica suffered an ankle injury in early June and has been struggling to recover from it. We’re hoping she will be able to get back on track for the last leg of this competition.
