The knee bone’s connected to the … creativity bone?

So as I’m recovering from my knee surgery and away from these tools I took for granted, what I am realizing is that there is a need not only to de-stress in our busy business lives, but also a need to create a regular environment for creative thinking. This may include physical activities like running, swimming, hiking, etc., or with more contemplative activities like meditation or writing.

If you’re not already doing this, I encourage you to think about establishing a regular practice that helps you calm and stimulate your mind to encourage your creative thinking, ability to solve complex problems, and think strategically. Monday-Friday I get up at 6am and get outside for 20-25 minutes, walking twice a week, running twice a week, using the elliptical generally once a week (when it rains or it's one of those truly bitter cold winter days). Love early spring and late fall when I can watch the sun rise and I can let my mind wander. I solve all kinds of problems this way, figure out what I'm going to do with the day, and plan activities/adventures for my family. I can easily see how not doing this would leave me very unsettled. Hope you are on your feet again soon!

You can meditate sitting in a chair, so that would spare your knees. You might want to try that. There's a lot of information online.

Loss of that time indeed is a challenge. While I've not quite found a perfect replacement I have found a tool that helps with cataloging thoughts.

Take a look at www.workflowy.com. I've been using it with jotting thoughts down for everything from how to be a better coach to remembering resources to building marketing plans.

It may not be that 50 mile bike ride, but it has certainly helped me stay a little more organized while sitting at a desk.
