Sticks and Stones ... Confessions of a Madison conservative

When you’re a conservative in Madison, Wis., you get called a lot of names. When you’re losing the debate, shouting “right-winger” is like hitting the delete button. Problem solved. “Fascist,” “blowhard,” and “insufferable eff-ing ****” are just some of the epithets that have been hurled my way. And those came from my former colleagues at the Isthmus!

Madison city officials discriminate against pro-life social services ... so much for ‘pro-choice’

You are a young woman, pregnant, afraid, and alone. Powerful forces in the society at large and in Madison in particular encourage you to terminate your pregnancy. Powerful forces, like the Madison Common Council.

Let’s teach our children about firearms

New York City intellectual Pauline Kael was said to have remarked that she knew of no one who served in the all-volunteer military or any of their families. That is the insular and oh-so-cultured mindset that frames the Sunday New York Times (get ready for snotty quotation marks) “exposé,” “Selling a new generation on guns.”

Zero Dark Hillary: At this point, what difference does it make?

Zero Dark Hillary: At this point, what difference does it make?

This is arrogance of a high order. Seeking to find out who knew what and when in the attack on our embassy in Benghazi that killed four Americans, including our envoy, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisconsin, received this answer from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during Wednesday’s hearings: “What difference, at this point, does it make?” Didn’t Bill say that to Hillary after a certain intern ...?

Take up the Progressive cry: No more tax cuts!

Sometimes the ball just floats into your wheelhouse so sweetly that you can count the stitches before you unload, corkscrew style (RIP Stan the Man) and send it into the cheap seats. Our liberal acquaintances just cannot help themselves. Thank you, Progs, for this: “Walker’s proposed tax cut political, irresponsible,” declares The Capital Times.

Today’s Bring It! is slavered with an extra dollop of farm-fresh, high fructose corn syrup! Enjoy! Stopped in at Saturday’s Guns Across America event at the State Capitol. I estimate the crowd at 300. Well behaved, without the usual liberal hecklers. (That may be due to our liberal acquaintances’ well-documented paranoia in re firearms. You know us gun nuts! Anything can set us off!)

Quick takes on guns, police shootings, Scott Walker, and hard hats

If short is sweet, today’s blogge is marzipan. Urban Milwaukee blogger Bruce Murphy builds his cases meticulously; rarely can one fault his data. But it usually pays to examine the premise. Republicans proposing a tax cut for the middle class are guilty of playing “Robin Hood in Reverse,” Murphy chides.

Former Mayor Dave Cieslewicz must be disarmed before he kills someone!

If you see this man on the street, consider him armed and dangerous. And liberal! Dave Cieslewicz is an admitted blogger, gun owner, and (worse) gun USER. He is also a suspected hypocrite. Contact the gendarmes at the Stately Manor (which has applied to the United Nations for near-statehood status) in care of this station.

NIMBY Foiled Again!

NIMBY Foiled Again!

Until last spring, a small shrine to Luddism withstood the seasons on a neighbor’s front lawn. Often garlanded with plastic flowers, the homemade sign read: “ATC: Keeping People in the Dark.” This was difficult to reconcile, given that the comfortable home was always well lit.

Reject the Capitol protester puppets

What time is it, boys and girls? No, it’s not Howdy Doody time. (All of my cultural references are at least 30 years old.) Hint: It’s been a couple of weeks since the last one. That’s right, time for a rally of the great unwashed at the State Street entrance to Wisconsin’s Capitol.

It is erroneous and fallon-eous to disguise high-court candidate Ed Fallone as an independent

My old comrade John Nichols of the anti-Capitalist Times has chosen Ed Fallone as the best hope to turn the Wisconsin Supreme Court to liberal, activist control in the supposedly non-partisan spring election. In the partisan Left’s view, incumbent Justice Patience Roggensack has sinned most grievously by refuting the narrative of Justice Prosser as a batterer of female justices.

Just someplace else, is all. Plucky little Belgium has been invaded twice from the east in the past 100 years. Now it is being invaded from the west, by France. Actually, not by France itself as much as by Frenchmen (pardon the dramatic license) who more accurately should be called refugees (again, the pardon). They are fleeing from a hostile regime that has declared war on success.

The Rose Bowl has thorns; Gabby Hayes says ‘bring on 2013’

Darn, dang, heck, jiminy Christmas, shoot, dad-gummit, and consarn-it! I want Gabby Hayes as the color man for the next Badger appearance in the Rose Bowl. “Gol-darned, dad-burned, freaky tie-wearin’, horn-swogglin’, trust-funding Stanford whipper-snappers!” Who can argue with that frontier gibberish?
